Just received my Journey boat. Rob with Journey is a pleasure to work with and makes the ordering process nice and easy. I changed my order a few times and even added things mid build and he was very accommodating and helps you get everything just how you want it. Kelly is a beaut and the guys did a killer job on the build. Picking up the 9-6 from the shop was a pain free process and Kelly and his guys give you a full run down on the do’s and dont’s of the boat and all the sweet features and accessories you’ve gotten.

My only regret is not ordering one 5 years ago!

Journey 9.6

Prior to ordering a 9.6 Journey last Fall I checked out the reviews on the Journey Boat website. I liked what I saw online and decided to buy myself a new boat for my 74th birthday in May. Best decision I have made in my ‘old age’ so far…

To provide some perspective I am a pretty hardcore stillwater flyfisherman who has owned a number of float tubes, kickboats, pontoon boats and few different prams over the past 50+ years. All of these watercraft have had pros and cons but, in reality, I am getting too darned old to fish in waders in cold water and unstable boats anymore.

So, after fishing my boat pretty steady over the past month, here are the eight (8) things that impress me the most about my new boat :

1. The stability of this boat is simply amazing. I can string up my 10’ 3” Mystic in the boat with no problem and by this I mean I can move from the back of the boat to the front of the boat with no stability nor balance issues;

2. I ordered my boat with 4 Scotty side mounts and Scotty flush mounts in all four corners. I can sit in the center of the boat and reach everything I need. This means more fishing time when I am on the water;

3. The heavy rubber floor mat option is one I highly recommend. It is real rubber so is easy to roll up and clean after the day is over as well as easy on my legs AND flylines;

4. The infinite position seats are marvelous and easy to adjust just the way you want them;

5. The sounder /fish finder tree is a stroke of genius – it drops perfectly into one of the Scotty flush mounts and can be positioned so it is easy to see water depth from just about any position in the boat – very important when fishing chironomids;

6. The plug in rear wheel option is a real back saver for us old guys. When I have everything out of the boat I can plug in the rear wheels and move the boat easily up rough launch areas found in many of our back country lakes and get the boat to my truck and boat loader. This would be very difficult with a heavier boat or a boat without rear wheels;

7. The oar hangers keep the oars outside the boat and away from the flylines. The thumb screw fasteners on the hangers are brilliant and prevent the hangers from getting knocked into the water (and possibly lost?); and

8. I love the pyramid anchors, anchor holders and ropes – very easy to position the boat quickly and effortlessly. I ordered 15# anchors and they hold very well in windy conditions. The 50’ ropes are of good quality and are easy on the hands and pretty much tangle free. The flush anchor mounts work flawlessly.

To date I have NO concerns with my 9.6. This is high praise for Rob and the team at Journey Boats in Kamloops! I feel great that I was able to buy an excellent boat that is made locally in Kamloops, B.C. Rob was easy to talk with and made the ordering process painless. He gave me some great suggestions regarding accessories and answered all the questions I put to him. When I drove to Kamloops to pick up my boat in early May I received a comprehensive orientation to the new boat and the accessories from the young fellow that had helped build my boat. What more could you ask for?

Damn, that's one very specific, to the point (all 8 of them!), boat and accessories review that I'm sure will be helpful for folks thinking about a Journey! The pleasure was all mine, Gord!
